As the owner of a luxury travel company, I’m often asked about the most popular destinations. For honeymooners, there are countries that become trendy for a few years and eventually fade away, and then there are perennial favorites. At Absolute Travel, the top three most popular destinations for newlyweds of all time are:
1. South Africa: There is no denying that there is something for everyone in South Africa: the winding roads of the Garden Route, cosmopolitan Cape Town, the Winelands region and, of course, safaris. The finest lodges pamper honeymooners while also indulging their appetite for adventure. We recommend several days in Cape Town to enjoy the restaurants and do some touring, a few nights in the Winelands region to sample the excellent local cuisine and wine, and then heading out on safari, preferably at two different lodges to see a variety of landscapes and animals. For the ultimate experience, conclude the trip with several days enjoying the beaches of Mauritius or Mozambique.
2. India: It’s true: India can be gritty and overwhelming, but it’s also gloriously, riotously, vividly alive. We recommend starting in Delhi and then hopping to the sacred city of Varanasi before stopping in Agra to see the ultimate romantic monument, the Taj Mahal. From there, go to Jaipur, the Pink City, and then Udaipur, where a cruise on Lake Pichola will enchant lovebirds. Of course, there is so much else to do in India that I can hardly scratch the surface here, but safari camps and the southern area of Kerala are excellent options, and we can also arrange a stop on the sun-kissed beaches of the neighboring island nation, the Maldives.
3. Argentina: The country that created the tango must know something about romance! Argentina has so much going for it: sophisticated Buenos Aires, the wine region of Mendoza and the lake country in Bariloche are just a few of the popular draws. There are so many special experiences that we can arrange for honeymooners, from a private picnic and fishing excursion in Bariloche to a spicy tango lesson from a professional dancer. For sun lovers, we can add additional time at the gorgeous beaches in nearby Uruguay.
