Here's your guide to these beautiful isles—choose the one that suits you to a T.

Day Trippers

The BVI chain has many other islands worth fexploring; some have facilities but most are better as day trips from Tortola. In addition to jaw-dropping natural beauty, many are also home to world-famous watering holes. If you're up for a bit of adventure, add these off-the-beaten-path places to your itinerary.

EXPLORE: On Norman Island, snorkel the Caves, the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel Treasure Island. Just off Salt Island, scuba dive among shipwrecks like the RMS Rhone, which sank in a hurricane in 1867.

EAT: Jost Van Dyke's legendary Foxy's is known for its full-moon parties and live nightly music, but it also has surprisingly good food—try the flying fish sandwich. Steps from the sand, Norman Island's Pirates Bight serves BBQ ribs and mahi mahi with rice and peas.

HOP: Norman Island's Willy T's, a bar on an anchored schooner, features a rocking happy hour—you're no longer allowed to jump off the deck, but it's still a good time. Soggy Dollar Bar, on White Bay on Jost Van Dyke, is a ramshackle bar of stools and hammocks, frequented by people from all over the world who simply want to kick back and immerse themselves in the sun-filled carefree vibe. The bar got its name from the fact that patrons used to have to swim from their boats to sample the potent signature drinks—the Painkiller and the Bushwacker.
