The opulent wedding invitations were enveloped in laser-cut pockets.

Dilshan gave Abi the ultimate surprise by flying into Sydney, Australia, where she lived, and popping the question at Sydney Harbor. The long-distance pair dated for six years before planning their special multi-day event. “It was very important for us to honor each of our culture’s traditions while celebrating our vows,” said Abi, leading the couple to host both a Hindu and a Buddhist celebration.

The Hindu ceremony took place at Miramare Gardens, a peaceful boutique hotel nestled in a nature reserve outside of Sydney. The festivities were as lively as the vibrant scarlet and gold decor as the pair engaged in lighthearted newlywed games before saying “I do.”

Abi wore her mother’s vintage temple jewelry saved from her days as a classical dancer.

The Buddhist ceremony and reception came two days later at Sergeants Mess, a waterfront event space along Chowder Bay. Kandyan dancers and drummers led the bride and groom to the wedding platform.

Family members were decorated in traditional henna designs for the Hindu ceremony.

A gold laser-cut sign of the bride’s and groom’s names was displayed alongside flickering candles and pale blooms.

A delicate mix of white florals served as centerpieces.
