Did you know that March 20th is National Proposal Day? According to proposalday.com and alleged founder John Michael O'Loughlin, the holiday is an incentive for single couples to "open the door to a discussion that could further their relationship towards wedded bliss..." It coincides with the Vernal Equinox, when day and night are of equal length worldwide, representing the union of a successful marriage.
Wacky origins aside, we're celebrating by taking a look at heartwarming proposals caught on camera that make us want to get engaged all over again, starting with a "breaking news" announcement that went viral this week.
Breaking News
Vince Ramos conspired with producers at WZDX-TV in Huntsville, Alabama, for his girlfriend Jillian Pavlica to read her own proposal off the teleprompter! The newscast ends with a weather forecast predicting "a hundred percent chance of tears of joy tonight."
The Most-Watched Proposal Video of All Time
This movie trailer proposal has been viewed over 26 million times on YouTube and spawned a series of copycats, but nothing has been able to top the original. We love that the groom, Matt, rigged the theater with cameras to capture his girlfriend Ginny's reaction! "I had absolutely no clue I was going to be getting engaged that day, but it's not out of the box for him to do some crazy surprise for me," she said during an Ellen DeGeneres Show appearance.
The Proposal Video That Took 6 Years(!) to Create
The groom, a pilot, often took his girlfriend with him as he traveled the world. A year into their relationship, they started documenting their trips by snapping a photo together in each location holding a single letter. Those letters would eventually spell out, "We always knew."
Luck: A Marriage Proposal Story
Professional DJ John Sinclair popped the question to his girlfriend Sandra with a video recapping all of their experiences together, including vacations, Christmas, Hannukah, bowling, skiing, and even making pancakes for breakfast. "One day, I just happened to walk into a bar I had walked into a million times before and everything changed...my bad luck suddenly turned into good luck...I just wanted to convey to her how much she has completely changed my outlook on life," the groom told Bridal Musings.

A Military Proposal
Sometimes, the simplest proposals can be the most touching.
