Tip of the Day: Groom’s cakes have gotten very creative in recent years, but there's no rule that they need to be over-the-top. If your future husband isn't into superheroes or sports, you can feature his favorite cake flavor with a more elegant design instead, like the fondant-cut monogram pictured above.

I hope everyone who celebrates had a Merry Christmas! Not to sound like the Grinch, but I am so happy the holidays are almost over. I had a great beginning of the month in December, but I'm ending on a not-so-great note. Unfortunately, I'm not going to reach my 10-pound weight-loss goal this month. But I am down four more pounds. It was much harder than I expected to make time for my workouts and eat healthy during this month.
I did not work out every day like I was doing last month (though I certainly would've liked to), but I made sure to get workouts in at least three times a week. Rene and I spent time at the gym together when we could and did workouts at home when our schedules got in the way.
Highlights from the past two weeks:
1. Mini-vacation to Atlantic City
Two weeks ago, Rene and I went to Atlantic City for the night with another couple who are good friends of ours. We made sure to do a lot of cardio the night before we left so that we could enjoy the food and drinks there. I knew I was going to eat a big dinner at Carmine's (it was so good!), so during the day, I opted for chicken and brown rice at lunch. And even though I really wanted frozen margaritas, I stuck with margaritas on the rocks and vodka. I know the little smart choices I made helped, but I still ate fattening foods that I wouldn’t have eaten at home.
Tip of the Day: Interested in hiring a wedding planner just for day-of assistance? Keep in mind that many professional wedding planners require multiple meetings before the big day. You’re not just sending over your vendors list and calling it a day. So prepare for day-of coordination to take a little more time than you might expect.
But the results will be worth it when you don’t have to worry about issues like the venue having lots of ice melt on their stairs and walkways or a disruptive guest being removed from the party — your planner will take care of that.

Tip of the Day: When writing thank you notes, it’s a lovely touch of class to hand-write the names of everyone in a family from which you have received a gift. If the card that came with the gift says the name of the couple and their three kids’ names, you should include everyone’s name on the thank-you card…even if you know that electric griddle or that big check didn’t come from the two year-old.
